Air99 Awarded 2019 QuickFire Challenge Prize
Air99 was named the awardee of the 2019 Reimagining Respiratory Protection QuickFire Challenge, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Innovation - JLABS, working with Janssen Research & Development, LLC, and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a component of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Air99 received a trophy and $100,000 in funding from BARDA on October 10, 2019 for the Airgami concept and working prototype. The Challenge aimed to identify the next-generation N95 respirator with improved fit, breathability, comfort, and reusability, to protect people from airborne pandemic and particulate pollution.
COVID-19 struck nine weeks after the award ceremony at BARDA Industry Days 2019. The grant accelerated Airgami production, enabling Air99 to join the global pandemic response.
